Google released a statistic that 68% of people across all demographics use YouTube to answer questions. Even from how to choose ingredients, cook certain foods, serve food, to how to wash dishes.
Now we see how the development of Facebook and YouTube competition as social media from year to year on desktop, tablet and mobile platforms.
Based on data from https://gs.statcounter.com/ in 2015, there are 5 big social media that dominate in Indonesia, namely Facebook at around 80%, while the other four big covers twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, and google + all in below 20%. In 2015, YouTube didn't get the top 5 spots yet.

In 2020, data obtained in August, Facebook users in the range of 40.45%, YouTube 35.42%, Pinterest 13.25%, Twitter 5.52%, and Instagram 4.83%. In this case, YouTube begins to experience its monthly increase mode. When compared to the end of 2019, YouTube has increased by around 13%, while Facebook has 19%.
What's interesting is that YouTube is starting to try to shift Facebook. At least the difference between the two social media users is very small (range 5%). When compared to data in 2015, the difference between Facebook and YouTube users in Indonesia is more than 80%.
If it is assumed that there are 100 million social media users in Indonesia, then YouTube users in Indonesia can reach over 35 million. In other words, the market share of advertising, mass media, and education can use YouTube media. By looking at the increasingly positive upward trend, YouTube should be looked at.
Then why does YouTube continue to increase? Facebook also has video links, but social media users still prioritize YouTube. Facebook, for example, is a video content broadcast today, so users will have difficulty finding the video 2 weeks ago, 2 months ago, especially up to 2 years.
YouTube is not the same as Twitter which provides short text, nor is Instagram that combines text messages with pictures. YouTube provides more value in terms of substance. This substance value is able to boost the search for internet users. So that it has a high library value.
Thus YouTube has a high search rate. Not limited to time and provides ratings in popular content. These qualities encouraged YouTube to become the main search place for years to come.
A lot of people upload videos to YouTube every day and are still struggling to get the appeal or views they want. Because YouTube is a search engine, excellent videos climb to the top and stand a chance of staying there for years. This certainly differentiates it from other social media content.
YouTube video uploaders do not need a specific educational base to attract enthusiasts. This is different from other platforms including Facebook, which still uses the basis of characterization (social status) as a magnetic force.
When will YouTube overtake Facebook? We look forward to it.
