Understand Student Academic Abilities

If we are asked, based on students' academic abilities, students can be divided into three parts: high, medium, and low academic abilities, which should be prioritized for tutoring?

Students who have high academic abilities, of course, he has ranked in class, lessons at school he is able to capture the material very well, learning is followed as smoothly as possible, interest and motivation to learn at school is no doubt, homework and assignments he was able to finish before his time, even he is able to learn independently. Daily tests are always above the minimum completeness.

Students who have moderate academic abilities, you can say students are mediocre abilities, he can follow the subject matter only at the beginning of the chapter only, homework and assignments are sometimes done if working on just copy and paste his friends, learning only as needed, daily tests sometimes who passed minimal completeness. If you see the ranking of 32 students, he got ranking 8-24, or thereabouts.

Conversely, students who have low academic ability often rank as caretakers. Low interest and motivation to learn, even almost disappeared. The school is just absent, attendance in the classroom is like a statue. When the teacher delivers the material, the student does not understand what the teacher is talking about. The body of a student in the class, but his mind outside the classroom wanders. The task is often forgotten, if you do, of course, copy and paste his friend without knowing the origin of the task's answers.

Of the three student conditions above, which should be prioritized once again? Almost all agree that students who have low academic ability prioritized tutoring, the reason is that students are able to follow the lessons in their class well. Only in the moderate academic one, and the last is high academic. According to the majority of the community, high academic ability does not attend, it does not matter because it is able to learn independently, so even in lessons there is no change.

However, here I think differently. Actually, in principle, the ability of any academic student needs for tutoring. So there is nothing to lose, God willing, if you take lessons. Why ? Because at tutoring will definitely get another learning experience. Then a matter of priority, it is precisely students with high academic ability who need tutoring. The reason is simple, if we have material that can be said to be 100%, in relatively the same time, then we give it to three children with different academic abilities, then of course students with high academic ability will get a greater percentage, even able to be 100% . In fact, from the 100% we provide, the child can develop our knowledge to learn more difficult independently.

In addition, students who have high academic abilities will feel that he is smart, without knowing that in other schools there are smarter ones, like the saying above the sky there is still sky. This is often found, when a student with high academic ability is ranked 1 to level without even learning he can get rank 1, it will result in him underestimating the lesson and feeling smart. Finally the achievements did not go up.

Well this is where the role of tutors to always innovate in teaching tutoring material. Give something different, give another learning experience to students with high academic ability, if necessary practice with problem-based questions or higher order thinking questions. Occasionally make it a teacher for us by training the child to present in front of us, so we can find out his true abilities.

Next are students who have moderate academic abilities. This student is prioritized secondly, because with tutoring he is expected to be able to follow the subject matter as a whole and not cut into pieces.

Unlike the low academic ability, teaching them to be able to develop their abilities is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand. We need to fight extra for that, even though our time is very limited and our minds not only provide tutoring, but many social tasks we need to go through. Not to mention the schedule of tutoring that we give to children very much.

Unfortunately, parents actually force and encourage tutoring only for children with low academic ability, then followed by high academic children so that they can survive. While the child whose ability is being left, assuming the child can already take lessons in school. There are even parents who think that if their child is smart (high academic) does not need to be tested, the reason is that this is just the same between at school and at tutoring. He considered no significant change, yet his son was smart. This is when in fact it is wrong, as explained above.

It should be understood here that, I distinguish our position as tutors with a teacher. If we are a teacher, then the priority for tutoring at school is precisely students who have low academic ability with the aim of being able to take part in learning well, their behavior being good, interest increasing, etc. which results in a minimum of remission time.

However, here we as tutors, it is precisely what we must pay more attention to is children who have high academic ability.
