How Can I Learn Maths Fast

From : Gopal Menon in Quora

The reasons why students find maths (as well as other subjects) difficult are as under:

  1. Their fundamentals are poor. So, they are not able to understand the subject properly. They are not able to apply what has been taught earlier.
  2. The teachers are bad. Either the teachers do not know the subject properly or they are not able to go down to the level of their students and explain in such a way that the students understand what is being taught or the teachers are not sincere and do not bother to teach properly.
  3. The students are lazy. If you do not put in hard work you will not learn the subject properly.
  4. Bad company and peer pressure.
  5. The parents do not take enough interest in the studies of their children. Though there are exceptions, in general small children prefer play to studies. Parents have ensure that these children get into the habit of studying.
  6. The environment is not conducive to studies. In some classes the students are rowdy and the teacher is not able to control the class - learning outcomes would be poor in such classes. Similarly, the environment at home may have a lot of negatives due to domestic problems or problems with neighbours or in the neighbourhood.
  7. In case of maths an additional issue that that abstract thinking is required. In the initial stages quite a bit of guidance is required to mould the mind properly.

One has to overcome the above problems, if they exist, in order to learn properly.

The next part is how to learn fast.

  1. Understand the basics properly and learn how to apply them.
  2. Observe the links between what you have already learnt and what you are learning now. Then, you will be able to understand better and faster what you are learning now.
  3. Understand the significance and application of what you have learnt.
  4. The most important is practice and more practice. There is no substitute for hard work.
